Dementia Diagnosis at a New Level
We are pleased to announce the implementation of a project funded by the Regional Operational Program of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship for the years 2014-2020. The project, titled 'Development and validation of a panel diagnostic test for assessing the risk of dementia and implementation of personalized pharmacological therapy method and algorithm for interpreting results,’ is being carried out from 2020 to 2023 as part of a consortium formed by Amplicon and the Wroclaw Medical University.
The project goal:
The aim of the project is to create and validate a panel diagnostic test that supports the diagnosis of dementia-related diseases and enables personalized pharmacological therapy. This test will allow for the analysis of 42 polymorphisms influencing the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the speed of metabolism of drugs used in symptom management and slowing the progression of the disease.
Stages of the Project:
Task 1: Determination of genetic profiles of DNA samples obtained from a group of individuals diagnosed with dementia and a control group, and preparation of positive controls based on them.
Task 2: Development and optimization of qPCR reactions for determining 42 polymorphisms included in the developed diagnostic test.
Task 3: Determination of the sensitivity and diagnostic specificity of the diagnostic test based on the analysis of the concordance of diagnostic test results with the genetic profiles obtained during the implementation of task 1.
Task 4: Development of an algorithm for interpreting the results of the genetic test in a format accessible to physicians and clinicians.
Grant Value:
The project has received funding in the amount of 682,652.00 PLN, of which Amplicon – 315,540.00 PLN.
We believe that our work will contribute to a revolution in the diagnosis of dementia-related diseases, improving the effectiveness of therapy and the quality of life for patients.
